Short Film
We are inviting submissions for our Short Film competition - Scottish Islands, a Unique Perspective.
Short films entered for the competition must be filmed on a Scottish Island. Films can be in any genre and any language (with subtitles in English) but must be original ideas and give an unusual viewpoint. Film duration must be under 15 min and work should be recent (developed within last 4 years).
You can submit up to two films - but you will need to fill out separate applications for each film. Entry is free.
The timescale for submission to the competition is from Monday 3rd August 2015 until 5pm on Wednesday 30 September 2015.
Prize for the winning entry is £500. The winning entry will be screened at An Lanntair and the top three entries will be screened daily at the Pop-up cinemas in Stornoway and Taigh Chearsabhagh in North Uist the week of the Festival.

ENTRY PROCEDURE
You may enter the Competition by submitting your short film (the "Film") together with the completed Entry form to: [email protected]
The Film and your Entry Form are together referred to in these terms and conditions as the "Content". By submitting your Content, you will be deemed to accept these terms and conditions.
The competition organisers are the personnel working on the Hebrides International Film Festival know as the HIFF 2015 project. They are employed/contracted by Rural Nations (Scotland) CIC who are the legal entity managing the annual Hebrides International Film Festival.
WHO CAN ENTER
Anyone who is over the age of 18 may enter the competition. You can submit more than one film per creative team, but you'll need to send a separate submission and entry form for each one.
FILM ENTRY GUIDELINES
Creative Period: The film should be a recent work - developed within last 3 years.
Entrants must be credited as Writer, Director or Producer of the film.

Send a DVD by post to 57 Westview Terrace, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis HS1 2LD (If posting the DVD the entry form must still be sent by email).
OPENING DATE
You can send your entries from 3rd August 2015.
CLOSING DATE
All Content must be received by us no later than 5pm on Wednesday 30 September 2015.
FILM LENGTH
Total running time for each film must be 15 minutes or less, including titles and credits.
LANGUAGE
Films can be in any language (although you may be asked to add English subtitles should your film be shortlisted for screening at HIFF2015)
LICENCE
(This section Licence, Warranty and Indemnity) plays a vital part in ensuring that there are no legal obstacles to us showcasing your work. Please make sure you read and understand it).
By submitting content to HIFF2015 Short Film Competition you grant HIFF2015 from the date of submission of your entry until 30th October 2015, a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, right and licence for the following:
1. Use, host, transmit and otherwise make use of the content or part thereof in any media and means of distribution, including but not limited to cinemas, multimedia distribution systems, the internet and mobile applications.
2. Use any trademarks, service marks or trade names (e.g. brand names, logos) incorporated in the Content.
3. Use the name and likeness of any individuals represented in the content. In addition, you agree to waive all so-called "moral rights" to the Content. This is so we can showcase your Film. This means that HIFF will have exclusive permission to potentially show and host the content on it's online platforms for the duration of the competition until the end of the competition showcase (30th October 2015).
In consideration of HIFF permitting you to submit your Content and enter the Competition, you grant to HIFF2015 the rights listed above from the date of submission of your entry until 30 October 2015.
WARRANTIES
You represent, warrant and agree that:
1. You are the owner of all the rights in the Content (including but not limited to the Film) and there are no disputes regarding ownership of the Content and you have the full authority to submit the Content.
2. You are entitled to grant to HIFF2015 the rights set out in the above licence.
3. No Content (or part thereof) submitted by you will:
• be defamatory, abusive or offensive;
• infringe the copyright, moral right, performing rights, rights of privacy, trademark or other proprietary right of any third party;
• constitute a misuse of any confidential information of a third party;
• advertise, promote or endorse any products or services;
• be false or misleading or omit information that should be disclosed by you or
• contain software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to affect the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment.
4. Any necessary consent, waiver, clearance, licence or approval required for HIFF2015 to make use of the Content as set out in the above licence has been obtained and that any fees or payments relating thereto have been paid;
Also, you have not entered into, nor will you enter into, any agreement or arrangement which could conflict with your obligations to HIFF2015 under these terms and conditions.
INDEMNITY
You hereby indemnify HIFF2015 against any claims arising out of or in connection with any Content, including but not limited to a claim arising out of or in connection with a breach of any of the warranties set out above.
PUBLICITY
By entering the Competition, you agree to be named in the media and to participate in as many promotional and press activities as possible before, during the competition and after the awards ceremony, especially if you're one of the shortlisted film makers. This may include: media interviews, photo opportunities. If you're one of the shortlisted film makers, we expect you to attend the Awards ceremony which will take place during the HIFF Festival between 13th to 17th October (exact date TBC).
INSURANCE
HIFF 2015 cannot take responsibility for any loss or damage to Content or such Content's delivery materials, so you will be sending your delivery materials at your own risk.
PRIZES
Three films will be shortlisted and all will be screened at HIFF 2015. From these an overall winning film will be selected and the Prize of £500 will be awarded.
JUDGING & DECISIONS
The judges' decisions in all matters are final and no correspondence will be entered into. The film entries will be judged by three professional film makers/producers who have experience of both Cinema and Broadcast.
MISCELLANEOUS
HIFF 2015 accepts no responsibility for lost, late or undelivered entries, notifications or communications, or any event which may cause the Competition to be disrupted or corrupted.
Proof of submission of Content shall not be proof of receipt. HIFF staff will respond by email confirming receipt of film entries.
HIFF 2015 reserves the right at its sole discretion to: Disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process including but not limited to any unauthorised use of any computer program, script, or any other device or methodology or process intended to automate any aspect of the entry process.
HIFF 2015 reserves the right to not precede with the competition if there are less than 5 entrants. The competition will instead proceed as part of the 2016 Hebrides International Film Festival.
By entering the Competition, you give HIFF 2015 permission to contact you from time to time with essential updates about the Competition and, of course, contact you if you've been shortlisted.
GOVERNING LAW
These terms and conditions shall be governed by and in accordance with the laws of Scotland and each party submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
