Welcome to the

HEBRIDES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

HIFF 2023 Programme - download with viewer display

Welcome to the 8th edition of the Hebrides International Film Festival. This year the festival is looking at how we can change the world, we have film dramas that look at stories of change, we are confronting environmental issues with positive films like
Inhabitants - indigenous perspectives on restoring our world and The Oil Machine by Emma Davie which ask us to consider the uncertain future of the industry as activists and investors demand change.

HIFF has always focussed on screening international film in other languages we have consistently worked with other languages because the emphasis was on quality of the
films, unique stories and cinematography of diverse cultures. This year we are proud to have special screenings of two amazing films Exodus by Abbe Hassan, a Syrian refugee drama and the Maori action film Muru by Tearepa Kahi.
Our Scottish and Irish selection bring you Aftersun from Charlotte Wells and the Award
winning Irish film An Cailín Ciúin / The Quiet Girl alongside some Gaelic language shorts like Dùsgadh by Cat Bruce.

Our Film Festival aims to reach our island audiences in their community venues to support film events in rural locations and encourage the wonderful volunteer promoters
in these venues to screen more films. We hope you enjoy this little gem of a festival and invite you to support your local venues as they are such a valuable part of our communities.

More about us:

The Hebrides International Film Festival is a curated Festival, meaning we hand pick all of the films shown in collaboraton with our local island promoters. We are a small, passionate team, and each of the films we screen connects in some way to island culture the climate change crisis and relevant island issues. 2023 will be our 8th Festival.
